CUTTING EDGE

CUTTING EDGE in Casino Design 2008. New technology and new method on the gaming floor — materials, systems and construction techniques arriving faster than the buildings that use them. The rest of the issue follows below. Sections are the magazine's own: each annual was assembled out of departments that recurred from year to year, and the pages are kept at the addresses the issue gave them.

5 stories sit under CUTTING EDGE, all of them from 2008. The longest of them is Asian Appeal.

The design moves that come back most often here are food halls and chefs (2), counted by reading the text of every story rather than from tags. CUTTING EDGE is one of 5 departments in Casino Design 2008; the others are Columns, COMPANY PROFILES, Departments and FEATURES. The issue as a whole carried 5 stories, and all of them are listed on the Casino Design 2008 page. In order, the set runs Asian Appeal, Bergman Walls & Associations, YWS Architects, BLT Architects and WESTAR Architects.

What follows is the archive as the magazine left it, sorted rather than summarised. Headlines keep their original addresses, the issue each story ran in stays with it, and where two stories disagree about a property both are kept: the earlier one is what was planned, the later one is what was built. Reading them in that order is usually more instructive than either on its own, which is why nothing has been quietly superseded or removed.

Two things are worth knowing about how this part of the site is put together. The first is that a page is never generated for a heading that has nothing under it: if a rubric appears in the navigation, there is reporting behind it. The second is that the archive is closed at the far end and open at the near one — the earliest issues will not grow, while the current section keeps taking new work, so the balance between them shifts a little with every issue.
