Columns

Columns in Casino Design 2022. Recurring voices. Opinion and analysis from the designers, developers and operators the magazine keeps coming back to, filed by department rather than by project. 4 subsections. The rest of the issue follows below. Sections are the magazine's own: each annual was assembled out of departments that recurred from year to year, and the pages are kept at the addresses the issue gave them.

10 stories sit under Columns, all of them from 2022. The longest of them is That's Entertainment.

Across the sections of the magazine they break down as Hospitality (3), Development (3), Gaming Floor (2) and Architecture (1). The design moves that come back most often here are theming (5), sustainability and leed (3), porte-cochère (2) and food halls and chefs (2), counted by reading the text of every story rather than from tags. The practices named more than once are Thalden Boyd Emery Architects (3), Steelman Partners (2) and Lifescapes International (2), each with its own page in the firm directory. Columns is one of 15 departments in Casino Design 2022; the others are Building Excitement 2011, CASINO DESIGN AWARDS, COMPANY PROFILES, Departments and DESIGN LEGACY, among others. The issue as a whole carried 33 stories, and all of them are listed on the Casino Design 2022 page. In order, the set runs That's Entertainment, Young Dragons, Going Non-Gaming, Design by Evolution, All Money is Good Money, Everybody Into the Pool!, Rooms to Move, Unforgettable Experiences, Local Legend and Timeless, Extraordinary Design. 7 bylines appear on them — Roger Gros, Roberto Coppola, Julie Brinkerhoff Jacobs and Dave Bontempo — and each contributor has a page listing everything of theirs the archive holds.

Everything filed here is the magazine's own reporting, kept at its original address and re-laid into the current design rather than re-edited. Where a story named a practice, a budget or a room count, the figure is the one that issue printed, and it has been left as it was printed: a 2009 budget is a 2009 budget, and the value of the archive is precisely that it says what was thought at the time instead of what turned out to be true later.

Nothing is filed here yet.
