THE END GAME

THE END GAME in Casino Design 2022. The closing page. One image, object or argument chosen to send the reader out of the issue. The rest of the issue follows below. Sections are the magazine's own: each annual was assembled out of departments that recurred from year to year, and the pages are kept at the addresses the issue gave them.

10 stories sit under THE END GAME, all of them from 2022. The longest of them is That's Entertainment.

Across the sections of the magazine they break down as Hospitality (3), Development (3), Gaming Floor (2) and Architecture (1). The design moves that come back most often here are theming (5), sustainability and leed (3), porte-cochère (2) and food halls and chefs (2), counted by reading the text of every story rather than from tags. The practices named more than once are Thalden Boyd Emery Architects (3), Steelman Partners (2) and Lifescapes International (2), each with its own page in the firm directory. THE END GAME is one of 15 departments in Casino Design 2022; the others are Building Excitement 2011, CASINO DESIGN AWARDS, Columns, COMPANY PROFILES and Departments, among others. The issue as a whole carried 33 stories, and all of them are listed on the Casino Design 2022 page. In order, the set runs That's Entertainment, Young Dragons, Going Non-Gaming, Design by Evolution, All Money is Good Money, Everybody Into the Pool!, Rooms to Move, Unforgettable Experiences, Local Legend and Timeless, Extraordinary Design. 7 bylines appear on them — Roger Gros, Roberto Coppola, Julie Brinkerhoff Jacobs and Dave Bontempo — and each contributor has a page listing everything of theirs the archive holds.

The list below is the whole of it — there is no second page and nothing is held back. Each headline keeps the address it was first published at, so a link made to one of these stories years ago still lands on the story itself. The sections are an index laid over the archive, not a rewrite of it, and the counts printed beside each entry are recounted every time the site is built rather than typed in once and left to drift out of date.
